Home theatre design & installation

Rooms built to a standard, not to a price.

A properly designed theatre isn’t a TV and some speakers in a dark room. It’s a room where the seating, the screen size, the speaker placement and the acoustics are worked out together — before a single cable goes in.

We’ve been doing this across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast since 2012.

Who This Is For

You're probably here for one of three reasons

  • You’re building or renovating, and someone mentioned you should sort the AV before the plaster goes on. They’re right, and you’ve got a narrow window.
  • You’ve got a room that could be great — a rumpus, a spare lounge, a garage conversion — and you want it done properly rather than adequately.
  • You already have a system that never quite delivered what you hoped, and you’d like to know why.

All three are things we do most weeks.

The Four Things That Decide It

What separates a proper theatre from a room with a projector

Most of what determines whether a theatre sounds and looks good costs nothing extra — it just has to be decided early and by someone who’s done it before.

Seating distance and screen size are one decision, not two

Get the screen too big for the room and you'll sit there watching dim pixels. Too small and you've spent the money for nothing.

Speaker placement beats speaker price

A modest set of speakers positioned correctly will comfortably outperform expensive ones in the wrong spots. This is the single most common thing we're called in to fix.

The room is part of the system

A square room with plasterboard and a tiled floor will fight you. Some soft furnishing, a rug, and treatment in the right two or three places changes the result more than a bigger amplifier ever will.

Calibration is not optional

Every room measures differently. An uncalibrated system is a set of good components that haven't been introduced to each other.

And it all has to be decided before the plaster. Cabling for speakers, screen, projector, power and data is cheap at frame stage and expensive-to-impossible after.

How We Work

Five stages, in order

Stage 1

Design Consultation

We look at the room or the plans and talk about how you actually want to use it. You’ll leave knowing what the room can do and what it should cost. Our design fee comes off the project if you proceed.

Stage 2

Design & Documentation

Screen size and position, seating distance, speaker layout, equipment locations, cable schedule, power. Drawn up so your builder and electrician know exactly what to do, and when.

Stage 3

Rough In

Cabling installed at frame stage, coordinated around your build schedule so nobody’s held up.

Stage 4

Install & Calibrate

Equipment installed, then measured and calibrated to the room it’s actually in.

Stage 5

Handover

We sit with you and show you how it all works — and we’re on the end of the phone afterwards. That part matters more than people expect.

Standards, Not Guesses

Designed to CEDIA RP22

Where the project allows, we design and build to CEDIA RP22 Standards — the international recommended practice for home theatre design, covering seating and screen geometry, speaker placement and room acoustics.

It’s the difference between a room that was designed and a room that was assembled.

What It Costs

We'd rather be upfront

So you can decide whether we’re the right fit before anyone spends an afternoon.

ScopeTypical investment
Upgrading an existing room
New projector and screen, or a speaker upgrade using existing cabling.
from $5,000
A proper dedicated theatre
Designed, cabled, installed and calibrated. Most of the rooms we build land here.
$15,000 – $35,000
No compromise
Reference-grade, full acoustic treatment, tiered seating.
$50,000+

If your budget (for a new room build) is closer to $10,000, be honest with us on the phone and we’ll tell you straight whether we can do something you’ll be happy with. Sometimes we can — usually by doing less, properly, and leaving room to add later. Sometimes we’ll tell you we’re not the right fit. Either answer saves us both time.

What we won’t do is install something we wouldn’t have in our own house.

“Excellent service. Justin contacted me well in advance for each visit and was on time for all of them. The quality of his work was excellent, as was that of the materials he used. He consulted with me at all stages and was very accommodating with changes along the way. The finished product, from the screen mount to all the speaker cabling, is very clean and looks great. A top professional and highly recommended.”

Common Questions

Before you call

Yes, and the earlier the better. We coordinate directly with builders and electricians and work to their schedule. If you’re at plan stage, that’s the ideal time to call.

No — that’s the best time. Decisions made now cost almost nothing. The same decisions after the plaster goes on cost thousands.

No. Plenty of what we build is in open-plan living. A dedicated room gives more control, but a well-designed open-plan system beats a badly designed dedicated theatre every time.

Yes, and it’s often the smart move. We design the full system, install the infrastructure for all of it, then build in stages. Nothing gets pulled out and redone.

Yes. We’re a dealer for the brands we install, which means we stand behind the whole system rather than pointing at a manufacturer.

An upgrade is usually a day or two. A full room in a new build runs across the build — rough-in at frame stage, then installation near completion.

Next Step

Thinking about a theatre room?

The best time to talk is earlier than most people think — ideally before the plaster goes up, but we’re happy to look at an existing room any time.
